Phongsali is six hours up the road. Worth every minute.

About this experience

In Khamla's words.

A Khmu village 25 minutes from Nong Khiaw still makes rice paper the traditional way — soaked rice ground to a smooth slurry, spread thin on cloth-stretched bamboo frames, sun-dried on racks. You'll go through the whole process: grinding, spreading, drying, peeling. Then they cook one batch into noodle soup for lunch. The village women lead it. Khamla translates.
